Alvin Russell Walden, 86, of Hardyville, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Born and raised in Deltaville, Alvin had a great appreciation and love for his family, friends and neighbors. Alvin’s love of boats and the Chesapeake Bay was epitomized by his life long passion of boat building and his devotion to Walden Brothers Marina. There are many boats cruising and working the Bay that he built. Alvin was the last surviving brother of the original Walden Brothers Marina (1946-82) in Deltaville. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond A. and Milton W. Walden; sisters, Bertha Sue Green and Nellie M. Warburton and his son, Alvin Wayne Walden. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rebecca Ann Walton Walden; sister, Barbara W. Gintout and husband Johnny; children, Arthur L. Walden and wife, Katy, Joyce W. Eanes, Katherine W. Sadler and husband William and L. Faye W. Combs; his grandchildren, S. Britton Eanes and Wife Brooke, Martha and Anne Sadler, Shawn Walden and wife Kelly, Justin Walden and wife Anne, Stephanie Walden; two special nephews, Ray and Jimmy Walden and niece, Anna Marie Buckman and many other nephews and nieces. His family also includes great-grandchildren, Avery, Natalie, Gage, Grant, Alexander and Kadence. And special friends, Chris and Mark C. Plakas and Ainslie Hodges who purchased Walden Brothers Marina and spent many hours “talking boats”. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, February 3 in Philippi Christian Church, Deltaville. Interment Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday (tonight) from 6 to 8 PM at Philippi church.
