Anne Elisabeth Denby Alston lost her courageous battle with cancer on March 25, 2017. She was the beloved wife of James Alston, the much loved daughter of Patricia and the late Otis Denby, and the dear sister of Gail Hickey, Laurel Zaremba, Susan Hoffert, and Timothy Denby. She was also the treasured aunt of Mackenzie Denby, Ryan Denby (both of whom she helped raise), and Robb Vermillion, and the loving stepmother of Brian Alston, Rebecca Alston Lewis, Sarah Alston Gumm, Joshua Reynolds, and Jacob Reynolds. She enjoyed doting upon step-grandchildren Logan Alston, Elisabeth Lewis, Owen Lewis, Sydney Reynolds, William Reynolds, and Landon Reynolds and had been looking forward to the birth of Jackson Gumm. Anne was born at Aigrefeuille, France, in September 1960. She loved all animals and had many dogs and cats over her lifetime. She enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, kayaking, and live music. A resident of Hartfield, Anne grew up in Williamsburg. She was a graduate of Bruton High School, Rappahannock Community College, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Anne was a loyal employee of Zaremba Law Center, where she compassionately guided grieving families through the estate process. A service to celebrate Anne’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, 15 CF Edwards Lane, Saluda. Rest in peace, dear Anne, we will forever love you and we will never forget you.
