As the sun rose on the morning of Thursday, May 31, 2012 the Lord called home Anne Kegley Longest a retired Postmaster with 22 years of service. Anne was born and raised in Newport News where she attended and graduated from Warwick High School. She met the love of her life John William Longest, Jr. and wed on June 10, 1960. Together they raised their family, three sons in Newport News before relocating to Jamaica, Va. in 1976. Anne was very active in her church, Glebe Landing Baptist Church, as well as an active choir member. She was an avid Washington Redskin fan no matter the outcome of their season. Anne was a longtime member of the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad where she held the rank of captain for numerous years. She was one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians-Cardiac on the squad and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed going camping and sharing happy memories with her family of the North-South Skirmish Association. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, retired City of Newport News Fire Chief, Clarence Lee Kegley and Audrey Stephenson Kegley. She leaves to cherish her husband of 51 years, John William Longest, Jr. of Jamaica; three sons, George R. (Debbie), Michael G. (Dana) and Richard W. (Geanie). Grandchildren, Bryan (Kate), Stephen, Marc (Heather), Jonathan (Laura), Kenleighe, Alexandra, Peyton, Shanna and Benjamin. Great grandchildren, Aiden, Caleb and Savannah. Two sisters, Joan Kegley Bonnett (Will) and Edna Kegley Carpenter. She also leaves behind many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday in Glebe Landing Baptist Church, Laneview. Interment church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Friday (tonight) at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 790, Urbanna, VA 23175 or Glebe Landing Baptist Church, 1439 Glebe Landing Road, Laneview, VA 22504. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Oncology Department of Rappahannock General Hospital and as well as the Hospice of Virginia.
