Annette Willaford Johnston, 96 of Middlesex County, died August 23, 2019 at Riverside Convalescent and Rehab Center, Saluda, VA.
She was the widow of A. Vernon Johnston and daughter of the late Wilhelmina Winn Willaford Bridger and William Bateman Willaford and beloved step-father Alvin G. Bridger. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Jean Ann and Shelton Raye Foster, Sr.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her son Alvin (Al) V. Johnston of South Carolina, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and a special close friend, Bob Gloeckl, “who took care of me as if I was his mother.” She is the last survivor of the 8 Bridger-Willaford children of Deltaville, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters: Isla Bridger Brown, Ernestine W. Holloway, Hoyt E. (Ermont) Willaford, H. William (Billy) Willaford, Christian Willaford, Alfred G. (Dickie) Bridger, Sr., and E. (Ed) Claiborne Bridger.
Mrs. Johnston was the former co- owner, with her husband, of The Delta Snack Bar in Deltaville, VA. She was a member of Remlik Wesleyan Church.
A graveside service will be held at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping, Virginia in the Johnston family plot on Sunday, August 25th at 1:30 P.M. The family will receive friends at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda on Saturday, August 24 from 6-8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. “But I really love cats and dogs.”
