Arnold Carroll Ripley, 99, of Susan, Virginia passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, at his home. He was a member of Saint Paul Comfort Church where he was active all his life, the American Legion in Mathews and was a World War II Navy Veteran. Arnold was a retired Menhaden Captain and during his time as a captain he caught 1 billion fish. He always was one of the first to contribute to those in need in Mathews anonymously.
He is predeceased by his wife, Eileen Miles Ripley.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Ripley (Ray); two sons, Arnold Ripley, Jr. (Cheryl), and Wesley Ripley (Elizabeth) and a granddaughter, Sidney Ripley.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Saint Paul Comfort Church followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will follow the service in Friendship Cemetery, Susan, Virginia. There will be a reception in the church social hall following the entombment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hands Across Mathews at www.handsacrossmathews.org, or to the Mathews Community Foundation at www.mathewscf.org. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews is assisting the Ripley family.
