WILLIAMSBURG – Arthur Lee Lewis, 87, died February 23, 2013 at Hospice House of Williamsburg. A native of Mathews County, he was a long-time Virginia Beach resident until returning to Mathews in 1992 after retirement. He relocated to Williamsburg in 2010. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Mathews, as well as Oriental Lodge #20 A.F & A.M. and the Mathews Ruritan Club. Mr. Lewis retired in 1989 as a Superintendent with Asphalt Roads and Materials, Inc. of Virginia Beach after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis H. Lewis; two sons, Harold F. Lewis of Long Beach, CA, and Darrell L. Lewis of San Francisco, CA; one sister, Virginia L. Kerns and husband Robert of Gloucester; sisters-in-laws, Alice Lewis, JoAnn Lewis, Jean Sutton and Janet Hunley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira L. and Minnie S. Lewis, and four brothers, William E. Lewis, Sr., Harold C. Lewis, J. Lester Lewis, and Harry S. Lewis.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 7-9 pm at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 25, 2013, in Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Suzanne Gibson officiating. Burial followed in Locust Grove Cemetery, Mathews.
