Barbara Virginia LeCompte Nelson, age 84, of Remlik, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, November 12, 2023. She is survived by her two daughters, Tracy Campbell (Ronnie) of Saluda, Holly Johnston (Michael) of Hartfield, grandson Payton Campbell and sister Joan L Daugherty of Quinton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. (Mickey) Nelson and brother, William LeCompte.
Barbara was born on Bethpage Dairy Farm to Billy and Gladys LeCompte. There, she grew up milking cows and playing with her siblings. She graduated from Middlesex High School in 1958.
Barbara was active in her community over the years, volunteering on the rescue squad and fire department auxiliary, chairing the blood mobile, working the election polls and serving on various committees at the Urbanna Methodist Church, where she was a member. Along with volunteering, she also drove the school bus for Middlesex County for 35 years. She loved seeing the students that rode her bus over the years as they matured and had families of their own. Barbara cherished her fellow bus drivers and the people she worked with, especially Miss Billie.
She could often be seen at her favorite local restaurants dining with her friends.
Her last days were exactly how she wanted them. She was surrounded by family, friends and special neighbors who mowed her grass, brought her fresh flowers weekly and anything she was craving to eat. The outpouring of love was overwhelming. Barbara will be remembered for her love of the community and family, strong will and faith in the Lord
