Barbara Burbank Barnes Robins, widow of Harold Gilbert Barnes and Gordon Ariey Robins, died on Saturday March 9, 2013. She was 94 years old. Mrs. Robins is survived by her children, Harold Gilbert Barnes Jr of Saratoga Springs, NY, Barbara Burbank Barnes Beasley and her husband Allen of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Bryson G. Barnes of, New York City, Andrew M. Barnes , of Saratoga Springs NY, Caroline R. Barnes of Saratoga Springs NY, Allen W. Beasley Jr. of Virginia Beach, Margaret B. Beasley of Washington D.C. and John A. Beasley of Philadelphia Pa.

Barbara Burbank was born in Larchmont N.Y. on April 1, 1918. She was the daughter of Walter Whelan and Margaret Burbank. Barbara graduated from the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City where she worked for six years. She was always actively involved in community affairs; a member of the Larchmont, NY Junior League, and a fifty year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Upon moving to Urbanna she became a member of Christ Church and continued her commitment on the Vestry, Altar Guild and as a Trustee. Barbara was actively involved in the community of Urbanna. She was the first woman on Urbanna Town Council, avid supporter and past president of the Middlesex County Woman’s Club and was instrumental in the start up of Rappahannock General Hospital, thereafter leading the Hospital volunteers for many years. She was a past a board member of the Urbanna Library, and a volunteer at the Christ Church Thrift Shop.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Christ Church Parish, Christchurch, Virginia. I lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Christ Church Parish, PO Box 476, Saluda, VA 23149.
