In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 5th, 2021, Barry Lee Sumner, 62, went to be with the Lord. Barry was born to Willis and Wilmadel Sumner August 11, 1959, in Richmond. Moving to Tappahannock in 1973, he graduated from Essex High School where he excelled in Varsity football, baseball, basketball, and tennis, playing each sport alongside his twin brother, Gary. Barry relocated to the Tidewater area in 1983 where he would live between Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. He loved fishing and playing golf with his family and friends. As much as he enjoyed outdoor activities, he loved his family more. Barry was happily engaged to his love, Mary and was always quick to gloat about his amazing daughters Cera, Lynn and Summer as well as his grandchildren Logan, Lincoln, and Avery.
Barry is survived by his fiancé, Mary Supko; his three children, Cera (Houston) Collett of Chesapeake, Lynn Tomcany of Virginia Beach, and Summer Maschinot (Mark) of Chesapeake. He was preceded in death by father, Willis Lee Sumner; mother, Wilmadel Sumner; and his infant brother, Lee Allen Sumner. He is survived by sister, Debbie (Pat) Emery; twin brother, Gary (Marie) Sumner; grandchildren, Logan Petty, Lincoln Collett and Avery Collett; a nephew, Christopher Sumner; nieces, Nancy Martin (Jared) and Beth Morris.
Barry will be remembered as someone whose heart was as big as his personality, carrying around that Sumner smile that was infectious to all. His love for the Lord and his family showed in everyday life. He was the kind of person everyone needed in their life. We love you Brother/Barry Lee/Dad/Uncle Barry/G-Daddy.
