Benton Holt Pollok, 88, began his journey to his next life on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. He was born in Danville, VA. on 9/27/27 to Elizabeth Woolley and Nicholas L. Pollok. After completing high school in Newport News, VA, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and later served as an officer in the Naval Reserve for a number of years. After the war he graduated from Florida Southern College, and after working several years in industry, decided to attend the George Wythe law school at The College of William & Mary. He loved the law, especially criminal law and practiced law in Richmond before moving to Urbanna, VA. He was a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Assn. One of his proudest achievements was making new case law before the VA. Supreme Court. He was an ardent opponent of capital punishment. He delighted in debating legal issues, politics (long time member of the Democratic Party and Chairman of the local Party for 15 years) and gardening.Mr. Pollok is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Kelly Davis Pollok, sons Thomas Hart Benton Pollok of Fredericksburg, VA; Nicholas Pollok of Richmond, VA; Mallory Pollok of Craig, CO; daughters Mary Kathryn Afable of Sturbridge, MA; Joan Borel of Summerland Key, FL; and his brother, Nicholas L. Pollok of Frederick, MD. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Kathleen Kelly Elizabeth Pollok and his sister, Elizabeth Conway. He was a longtime resident of Urbanna, VA, and a former mayor of the town. He was also a member of Christ Church Parish, Middlesex, having served on the vestry, and as stewardship chairman, Brotherhood president, and Cemetery Committee Chairman. A memorial service (Requiem Eucharist) will be held on Friday, May 13th at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, Middlesex County.
