Betsy Duff

October 14, 1937 — March 27, 2017

Mrs. Gordon "Betsy" Fulton Duff went home to God on Monday, March 27, 2017. Betsy passed peacefully after her battle with ALS.

Betsy was born October 14, 1937 in Lynchburg, VA to Roscoe and Iola Jane Fulton. She attended E.C. Glass High School and went on to graduate from James Madison University in 1959. She was a school teacher, a realtor and a marketing manager during her working career.

Betsy was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ronald D Duff.

Betsy and Ron chose Richmond, VA as their home during most of their marriage and for raising their children. In 1991 after retirement they made Mathews their new beloved home. In Mathews Betsy was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church, and enjoyed serving the community by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Hands Across Mathews. It was at Hands Across Mathews where she met her new best and loving friend, Charles Ross Edmonds, Sr. Charles stole her heart and brought much happiness to her life.

Betsy was a warm, light-hearted and loving person who kept family in laughter. She was loyal to her family, supporting them in any choices they made and was always a phone call away. She loved to play bridge with her ladies group at Mathews Yacht Club, dance the night away at singing venues with family and friends, making homemade biscuits with her grandchildren, watching the flurry of hummingbirds from the porch and hatching butterflies each year. She never met a stranger and enjoyed asking a battery of questions beginning with, "Now where do you live?". She was honest, quirky, wonderfully artistic and will be missed terribly by all who knew her.

Betsy is survived by her son, Gregory Doyle Duff, two daughters, Suzanne Duff Thornton and Jane Duff Cooper and their loving and supportive spouses-Elaine, Keith and David. Along with her six grandchildren: Ryan, Taylor, Danielle, Emily, Bailey and Katherine.

A memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church in Mathews, VA on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:30.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association. www.alsa.org.
