Carl Sultan Rew (“Buck” to his family) of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. He was born on August 17, 1949 in Hampton, Virginia.
Carl grew up in Northern Virginia, where he began his carpentry career and tried his hand as a general residential contractor. His love of reading and research led his interest to vintage cars, trains and, antiques.
Relocating to Gloucester occurred once Nita retired and their shop, Timeless Antiquities, was their next step into the love and collection of antiques.
As a small-train enthusiast Carl enjoyed his membership of like minds when talking and meeting with friends of the Rappahannock Model Railroaders.
Carl was the Deep Point Property Owners Association President for many years. The community neighbors will miss his friendship, and his talented ability to guide ‘situations’ to an agreeable conclusion.
Carl and his late wife, Nita, shared a love for animals, adopting and caring for the many pet dogs, and happily feeding the wildlife around their Gloucester home.
Carl’s many friends will miss his quick wit and engaging stories. The family would like to thank Carl’s friends who kept him company, ran his errands, and reached out for a chat after Nita’s passing. His high school friend John MacQuilliam in Utah never left a call without telling Carl he was loved.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Samuel M. Rew, mother, Shirley A. Sultan, his son Timothy, and his wife, Juanita “Nita”. He is survived by many sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Mathews, Virginia.
