Carlos Gene “Pops” Viars

Carlos was born on January 20, 1950, and died on February 9, 2024, at the age of 74. He died peacefully surrounded by family.

Carlos was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Mary Lucille Viars; his sisters Shelia Chewning and Sandra Cox, as well as Sandra’s husband Steve and daughter Leslie.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Chris (Amy), and Justin (Stacie), and daughter, Dawn (Benjy). He leaves to cherish fond memories of their Pop his grandchildren; Kayla (Frank), Andrea (Austin), Noah Avery, Ally, Caden, Haley, and Mary Kate; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Carlos was General Manager of Shamrock Distributing Company for many years, but also had careers at Verizon, Northern Neck Regional Jail, and most recently as a part time Deputy for Westmoreland County serving as bailiff in the court. His friends are many, and his life on the Rappahannock River was a wonderful retirement. He loved deeply, he fixed everything, he protected everyone. If Pop couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed! He will be missed.

There will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
