Carol Ann Byrns, 73, of Mathews, Va., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014.
She was born May 1, 1941, attended New Point Elementary School, and graduated from Mathews High School in 1959.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll Dow and Annie Belle Cannon, and by her husband, Willard V. "Junior" Byrns.
She met and married the love of her life, Junior Byrns, in 1960. Carol Ann was a faithful member of Mathews Baptist Church, where she served on many committees for over 50 years. She volunteered in the community, serving Meals on Wheels, helping at the polls, and she was a year-round supporter of sports, especially the Mathews Little League and the Mathews High School teams. Carol Ann served and retired as the Chief Deputy Treasurer of Mathews County.
She is survived by daughters, Lori Ann Byrns and husband Warren Dixon, Suzanne Byrns Moore and husband Brian; one son, Christopher D. Byrns and wife Wendy; sister, Jodie Sue Hurst and husband Dickie; grandchildren, Taylor Byrns, Logan Byrns, Tyler Moore, Colin Moore, Nichole Dixon and Jessica Dixon. She also leaves behind a very special extended family and a host of sweet friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 6 in Mathews Baptist Church with burial to follow in H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad or Fire Department, and/or Meals on Wheels.
