Carolyn Henkel

March 6, 1933 — March 7, 2022

Carolyn Revere Henkel, 89, of Urbanna, Virginia and a recent resident in Schertz, Texas, passed away peacefully at Silver Tree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Schertz on March 7, 2022.

Carolyn was born in Richmond, Virginia to J. Merlin and Garland O’Brien Revere and raised in Wake, Virginia. She attended Middlesex County Schools and was a 1951 graduate of Middlesex High School. She attended Nursing School at Johnston-Willis in Richmond, Virginia following graduation from high school.

Carolyn wed A. Robert Henkel of Urbanna, Virginia on March 5, 1952. Their life together was blessed with the birth of their daughter Gene, and sons Merle and Robert with homes through the years in Richmond and Danville, Virginia; Greensboro and Charlotte, North Carolina; and Portsmouth, Virginia before they returned to their beloved Middlesex County, Virginia in 1992.

Carolyn was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her God, her Church, her family, and many friends. She was a member of Lower United Methodist Church and served in many volunteer capacities there. She was a member of the Middlesex Woman’s Club and served in volunteer capacities with the Urbanna Oyster Festival and the Middlesex County Public Library.

Carolyn worked through the years as a kindergarten teacher, in banking and insurance, and upon her return to Middlesex, she spent several years working with the Hurley family at Bethpage Campground. Carolyn’s great passion, however, was attending and cheering for her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities and sports contests through the years.

She is survived by the love of her life, high school sweetheart and husband of 70 years, A. Robert (“Bob”) Henkel of Urbanna, Virginia (currently residing in Schertz, Texas); daughter, Gene H. Stocks of Virginia Beach; and sons, Merlin A. (“Merle”) Henkel of Montgomery, Alabama; and Lt. Col. (ret.) Robert R. Henkel (USAF) and his wife, Cindy, of Schertz, Texas. Additionally, she is survived by grandsons, Brian K. Stocks, Kevin M. Stocks, David S. Henkel (Sara), Robert S. Henkel, Campbell C. Henkel (Sara) and granddaughter, Danielle N. Henkel; great-granddaughters, Emily Stocks, Ella Stocks, Peyton Henkel, Holly Elizabeth Henkel and great-grandson, Landon Henkel; her sister, Paulette R. Mohrman and her husband, Lt. Col. (ret.) Gordon Mohrman (USAF); and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Doris Revere Henkel and one nephew.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Silver Tree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care in the past three years and Accent Care Hospice for their support in recent weeks.
