Carrie Poe

March 17, 1931 — November 18, 2022

Carrie Belvin Poe, 91, of Mathews, Virginia passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, after a full and rewarding life. She was a lifelong resident of Mathews County and a graduate of Mathews High School in 1948. She also graduated in 1966 from Riverside School of Practical Nursing. Carrie was a member of Kingston Parish for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents James O. and Carrie V. Belvin; a son, E. Slater Hurst, Jr.; two husbands, E. Slater Hurst, Sr. and Alvin Poe; two sisters, Merle Fredrick and Lois King; and a brother, James O. Belvin, Jr.

She is survived by three children, Cynthia Bradley of Newport News, S. Wayne Hurst of Newport News, and Connie Shelton (Preston) of Moon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank The Gardens of Warwick Forest for their care, concern and ability to meet all of Carrie’s needs.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Cemetery, Susan, Virginia. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia assisted the family with the arrangements.
