Charles Irvin Beck III

April 17, 1940 — February 22, 2025

Charles Irvin Beck, III, 84, of Tappahannock, VA, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025. He dedicated 38 years to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), where he started by putting up road signs and worked his way up to become a bridge inspector. His strong work ethic and commitment left a lasting impact on those he worked with.

Beyond his career, Charles had a deep love for fishing and gardening, finding peace in nature and the simple joys of life. Gardening was one of his greatest passions, with gardens everywhere he could plant them. He took pride in supplying family and friends with the best homegrown tomatoes around. His passion for the outdoors was unmatched—he could tell you the name of every bird he saw and every tree he passed.

Charles’ sharp memory never faded; he could recall and tell a story from many years ago as if it had just happened yesterday. His gift for storytelling and attention to detail made every memory he shared feel alive.

A devoted sports fan, Charles never missed a New York Yankees game, always watching with his notepad in hand, keeping his own meticulous stats. He was also an avid supporter of UNC basketball, cheering on the Tar Heels with unwavering enthusiasm. His love for sports was infectious and brought joy to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eloise Mundie Beck; his parents, Charles Irvin Beck, Jr., and Maggie Belfield Beck; and his sisters, Mary Lou Beck Gouldman and Charlotte Beck Hillyer.

Charles is survived by his loving sons; Jason Beck of Maryville, Tennessee and Aaron Beck (Crystal) of Tappahannock; his cherished grandchildren, Ethan Beck, Ava Beck, Olivia Packett-Beck, and Reagan Newsome; his niece Elizabeth Gouldman Prout of Everett, Washington; and his nephew John Wright Gouldman (Dawn) of Fredericksburg.

While he will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace with the love of his life, whom he has missed so much. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Marks-Bristow Chapel in Tappahannock. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be held after the service.
