Charles Mayer

Charles Esek “Charlie” Mayer, Sr., 89, of Mathews, Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023. He retired from Anheuser Busch after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, lifetime member of the NRA, Tractor Clubs and the Antique Engines Club. Charlie loved to work with his hands and restore antique tractors, gas engines and steam engines.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Jeanette Mayer; daughter, Karen Guffey; sister Jeanne Patterson and sons-in-law Larry Guffey and Bobby Fields.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mayer, daughters, Cheryl Nowell (Bill), Brenda McLain (Craig) and Rosemary Fields; sons, Charles Mayer, Jr., and Thom Mayer; his brother, Bob Mayer (Ruth); grandchildren, Jennifer, Chase, Kristie, Dustin, William “Bill”, Amber, Lindsey, Barbara, Heidi, and Heather; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, Virginia 23035.
