Charles Ryland Revere, 76, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at his home in Hartfield, VA. He was the only son of the late Howell Lee and Elizabeth Revere. Revere, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sally Gayle; sons, Craig with his wife Tammy and their sons Austin and Trevor, and Carlton with his wife Darla and their sons Joshua, Charlie and William, and numerous cousins. His love of and skill at baseball allowed him to attend the University of Richmond where he played under his favorite coach, Mac Pitt. He proudly served in the US Army and rose to the rank of Captain. Friends and family say he was a lifelong learner who understood the need to get involved and who volunteered and led many community organizations. He cherished the friendships he made while serving with the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department, Middlesex Board of Supervisors, Eastern Virginia Bankshares, Inc. Board, Riverside Health System Board, Middlesex Lions Club, and Northern Neck Free Health Clinic Board. In the 50 plus years in the propane industry, he was involved with the Virginia Propane Gas Association (VAPGA), the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC). He was considered a consensus builder in all of these associations earning him the NPGA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2014 and was inducted into the LP-Gas Hall of Fame in 2015. As owner and President of Revere Gas, Inc. and First Virginia Propane, Inc., he worked with devoted and hardworking co-workers who served the propane needs of customers throughout eastern and central Virginia. The family business that he cared for provided him the opportunity to live and work in a community that he adored. He always felt very blessed to be able to work daily with his mother, father, his wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law, and recently, his grandsons. His faith in God kept him active in many capacities at Lower United Methodist Church where he was a lifelong servant. He appreciated all of the gifts that God bestowed upon us especially time outdoors. Whether it was farming the land, besting his buddies at golf, fellowship by the pool or hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons, he understood that today is a gift and we should embrace each and every moment.
