Clifton Dowell

December 31, 1969 — January 7, 2023

Clifton Argyle Dowell III “Chip”, died peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Bowlers Wharf on January 7, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Argyle Dowell Jr., and Courtney Neale Dowell; and his sister, Courtney Dowell Mann.

Survivors include his children, Barry Dowell (Lori) and Margaret Steiner (John), six grandchildren; Jessica, Joshua, Matthew, Ben, Will and Sam, and four great-grandchildren; Claire, Cadence, Charlie and Mia.

Chip retired as a CDR from the U.S. Navy and was a human resources specialist for the state of Virginia for over 20 years. He loved his family, living on the Rappahannock river, all animals and wildlife photography.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the many friends and neighbors who helped Chip during his extended illness.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Cliff’s home on Friday, January 13th, 2023 from 2-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Tappahannock-Essex County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1079, Tappahannock, Virginia, 22560. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
