Colonel Roger Anglin

December 31, 1969 — May 9, 2018

Colonel Roger Anglin, U. S. Army Retired, 68, of Urbanna passed away peacefully at his residence on May 9, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Jody Anglin; children, Kelly Parker (Lee) of Chester, VA, Lisa Roberts of Virginia Beach, VA, Christopher Roberts (Nicole) of North Stonington, CT and Morgan Roberts (Nina) of Norfolk, VA; sister, Deborah Anglin of Johnston, IA; three grandchildren, Peter, Lorelei and Amelia; and his devoted canines, Remington, Winchester and Derby.

Roger was born into a military family at Fort Knox, Kentucky, in 1949. He thrived in the life of the ‘Army brat’ as a child and looked forward with enthusiasm to each of the thirteen moves the family would make before he left for college in 1967. At the University of Central Missouri, he continued in the military tradition by participating in ROTC, entering the Army immediately upon graduation. He had a deep sense of duty and love for his country, willingly placing himself in harms way and defending it. While serving in the Army he rose steadily through the ranks, proving himself by any standard to be a soldier’s soldier, the highest possible accolade given by the troops he served. He served in various units to include infantry, armor, airborne, aviation and his service culminated in command of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. He made multiple deployments and saw combat in the first Gulf War. His outstanding service earned him the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Air Medals, and numerous other awards and campaign ribbons. After retiring from active duty, he dedicated his civilian career continuing to support the Army he loved so much.

Throughout life, he always did things his way and was happy to share his opinion over a glass of good bourbon. His other interests included being an avid hunter, a part time sailor, a self declared grill master but most importantly he was a loving husband and father who showed his true love through action. And now we begin the arduous task of missing him.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 in the Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda.

The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Freedom Hunters (freedomhunters.org) and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org).

And in the words of another great soldier: Let us cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees.
