Darlene Michelle Schaefer Cornwell, 56 of Mathews, Virginia passed away peacefully Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:11 pm. Darlene was born September 11, 1958 in California and was the daughter of Hubert James Schaefer and June Jackson Schaefer. She was a graduate of Bayside High School. She became a wife and mother of two sons and a daughter. After raising her children, Darlene went to Basic Law Enforcement training in Washington, NC and upon graduating, became a Sheriff Deputy. She worked in Perquimans County NC. and Gates County NC., as well as working as the Scholl Resource Officer at the local high school. Darlene married William Edward Cornwell of Mathews in 2003. From there, she spent her time as a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She enjoyed spending her time out on the water and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Scott Jacobs; her parents, Herbert James Schaefer and June Jackson Schaefer; her brother, Daniel Martin Schaefer, as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents. Darlene is survived by her husband and children, Bryan Jacobs of Leon, France; Amanda Jacobs of North Port, Fl.; her grandchildren, Shelby Nicole, Kendal Marie and Liam Mathews, Leland Scott Jacobs and Elizabeth Darielle Dehnert; her brothers, Gary Schaefer of Norfolk, Va. and Michael Schaefer of Chesapeake, Va., as well as nieces and several cousins and extended family members; her husband's children, William E. Cornwell III, Amanda Wroten and John D. Cornwell and grandson, Brandon Wroten, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia. The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gloucester Hospice Care, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, Virginia 23061.
