David Kellar

On A cold day in January 1963, David Hynes Kellar (Sr.) was brought into this world by his now deceased parents, Dorothy and Paul Kellar. He was raised on the shores of the Rappahannock River at Jamaica, VA with his siblings/survivors, Paul R. Kellar, D. Kathleen Kellar, William M. Kellar (Stacey), Helen M. Kellar, and C. Patrick Kellar (Suzie). In the wee hours of August 13, 2023, David left this world after suffering from ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Cindy Miles Kellar and children, Rachel E. Kellar Follin and David H. Kellar, Jr. (aka DJ) (Felicia) and DJ’s and Felici’s combined children, Emily, Aiden, and Madison. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. David is predeceased by his stepson, Nathan Price, and survived by Nathan’s son Tyler.

David loved photographing and being in nature and the outdoors, spelunking, fishing, golfing, and Ocracoke Island, NC. His “quiet” place was on the riding lawn mower cutting grass. He adored his grandchildren and with them was when he was most likely smiling. He was gentle, kind, never met a stranger, and loved to talk.

David was a member of Masonic Lodge #83 in Urbanna, Veterans of Foreign Wars-Post #8356 in West Point, and Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad (before it’s demise). He served in the US Army for fourteen years as a Combat Engineer. When he separated with an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he was a Staff Seargent and had received numerous decorations, awards, and citations. He served in combat during Desert Storm in 1990-91, which apparently triggered the ALS from exposure to toxins. Following the Army, David was employed by the Middle Peninsula Regional Jail, Peusmasend Creek Regional Jail and the Bay Design Group.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverside Lifelong Health & Rehabilitation Center in Mathews for their patience and wonderful care of David. With a special thanks to Lynne Callis. Also, thanks to Riverside Hospice and the Veterans Hospital in Richmond.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at 2 PM on October 8, 2023 at Urbanna United Methodist Church in Urbanna VA. The Reverand George L. Morris will be officiating. In Lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to an ALS support or research group of your choice. Help stamp out this devastating disease.
