David Hinton Moorman, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in Richmond, Virginia. Born on March 22, 1940, Dave grew up on his family’s farm in Bedford County, Virginia. He participated in 4H and high school athletics, and was the big brother to his three siblings Michael, Mary, and Anne. A lover of key lime pie, stone fireplaces, Christmas, and being barefoot, Dave was a hard-working, kind, gentle man who treasured his family and relished a good dry joke. He retired after 41 years with Carpenter Company, finishing his career as CFO. He loved his life by the East River in Mathews enjoying many boat rides, quiet times at the end of the pier, weekly golf with the Geezer Guys, and traveling with family and friends.
Dave is survived by Linda Lou Moorman, his wife of 35 years, his three daughters Beth Myers, Angie Moorman and Linda Barrett and his stepdaughters Debbie Kukla, Cherie Warfield and Sarah Everhart, as well as twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his brother Michael Moorman, his sister Mary Lough, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Baxter. He is preceded in death by his parents Billie and Hinton Moorman and his sister Anne MacLean.
One granddaughter wrote the following:
In his endearing way
He teased us
In his quiet way
He loved us
With patience and steadiness
He took care of us
He endured the never-ending trials, tribulations, and silliness of a female-dominant family.
His presence put us at ease.
And he expected no thanks
Just a good chair to sit in
Next to his companion
To look out and watch the world go by
And think of his life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews is assisting the family.
