Deborah Phillips Downs

Deborah “Debi” P. Downs, 72, of Diggs, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia. Debi graduated from Mathews High School. She worked for Hampton Roads Orthopedic for 30 years and retired on December 20, 2023. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Horace and Elizabeth Phillips and her son, Leonard Scott Downs.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard A. Downs, Jr.; grandsons, Hayden Downs and Tristan Downs; granddaughters, Alyssa Curko, Kandace Curko, and her heart daughter, Katie Rose Cook (Thomas); sisters, Donna Edwards (Bobby) and Theresa Ashberry (JJ Ashberry); mother-in-law, Joyce Downs and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special companion, Riley.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Virginia. A reception will be held at Mathews Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Debi’s memory to the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. 1130, Mathews, Virginia, 23109 or to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Virginia 23076.
