Dixie Lochte Townsend, age 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. She was retired from the Town of Tappahannock where she worked for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James E. Townsend; her parents, Joseph LeRoy and Sarah E. Lochte; and a brother, William L. L. “Butch” Lochte.
Dixie is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Townsend of Tappahannock; her son & daughter-in-law Jimmy and Lynne Townsend; three grandsons, Adam (Ashley), Gage, and Knate Townsend, all of Warsaw; a great-grandson, Link; two sisters, Joyce L. Sydnor (John) and Sally Harless; a sister-in-law, Barbara D. Townsend; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a lifetime member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department. She thoroughly enjoyed her time serving with the ladies. Services were held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock with the Reverend S. Roy Foster officiating. Interment followed in Essex Cemetery. Pallbearers were Adam Townsend, Eddie Sydnor, Greg Sydnor, Jimmy Sydnor, Tim Daiger and Kenneth “Skippy” Gillis.
