Donald Ray Bareford, 72, of Tappahannock, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Donald Ray was the son of the late Walter Ryland Bareford, Sr., and the late Dorothy Brooks Bareford. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Arnold, and Robert Bareford; his sister, Betty Frank; and his nephew, Kevin Bareford.
Donald Ray was a kind, generous, and faithful man who loved his family, friends, and church. He loved a good practical joke and laughing with his friends. He was always happiest on his tractor and when it snowed, many of his neighbors woke up to their driveways already cleared. You could find him at his shed listening to the Righteous Brothers or gospel music, reading a book, or playing solitaire. At Christmas, you would find him cooking his special ham for his family.
Donald Ray was a devout member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for over 20 years and ended his career as a Drill Sergeant. He also worked for over 30 years at Southern States, but the job he loved the most was being a farmer and spending time plowing the fields.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Peggy, who lovingly cared for him; his three daughters whom he adored: Angela Mahan (Jon); Kimberly Warburton (Jack); and Emily Seabury (Beau); his precious grandchildren: Joe and Sam Mahan; Ben, Max, Will and Kate Warburton; Luke, Maddie, and Jacob Seabury; as well as special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with military honors to follow at the graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church, 5141 Dunbrooke Road, Tappahannock, Virginia, 22560.
