RENÉE HORTON

ATKINSON

Renée Horton Atkinson of Mathews, passed away on July 16, 2013 after a decade of a courageous battle with cancer.

Renée is survived by her loving and loyal husband, John, who never gave up hope that she would enjoy living each and every day.

She is survived by her sister, June Horton McKeon (Philip) of Richmond, Va. Also surviving are three daughters, Lydia Harrison (Bucky) of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Linda Carroll (Mike) of Midlothian, Va., and Lesley Maceyak (Ray) of Chesterfield, Va.

Renée leaves five grandchildren, Zachary Harrison, Katherine Harrison Dehus, Patrick Carroll, Connor and Kelsey Maceyak, and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loyal beloved Jack Russell, Norma Jean.

Renée graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and attended Longwood College.

She had an extensive career in the banking and finance industry where she served as a branch manager and vice president of Southern Bank and Trust in Richmond, Va., and later retired from Chesapeake National Bank in Mathews as a trust officer.

Since her retirement almost 20 years ago, Renée was an active member of the Mathews County community. She was a member and former president of the local DAR chapter, a member of Mathews Woman's Club, and actively supported the local arts council and library.

An avid bridge player, Renée also enjoyed entertaining friends and family, collecting antiques, and finding bargains and treasures at local estates and yard sales, auctions and thrift stores.

Renée will also be remembered for her style and sense of fashion. She enjoyed dressing up, and she would light up an event with her carefully chosen outfits, from matching sunglasses, purses, and shoes, to coordinated classic attire for every event!

We will miss Renée's zest for life and her love for family and friends.

May she be in God's care, and peace and serenity.

A potluck celebration of Renée's life will be held at her home on Aug. 25, 2013 from 2-5 p.m
