Douglas Temple Gray, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Doug was born in Richmond,VA., and grew up in Saluda, Middlesex County,VA. He was a 1961 graduate of Middlesex High School in Saluda and a 1965 graduate of the University of Richmond where he majored in English and History and was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Doug’s 28 year career with IBM included positions in various divisional and management roles in administration, education, computer sales, and software development in Washington, D.C., Richmond, VA, Los Colinas (Irving) and Southlake, TX. Following Doug’s retirement from IBM in 1994 he made his family home at Oakenham Farm in Saluda,VA. Doug was an active member of Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) in Middlesex,VA, and he served his church as senior and junior warden, Eucharistic minister and lay reader at Christ Church Parish Middlesex, Redeemer Episcopal Church in Richmond,VA, and St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Keller,TX. Doug’s greatest loves were for his family, his church and his country. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis,Washington, from 1965-66, and inVietnam in 1967, and finished his military service at Ft. Lee,VA. in 1968. Doug is survived by Velma Krowe Gray, his wife of 48 years, his son Douglas Temple Gray, III (Trip) and his wife Sheila, and his son John Weston Gray, his wife Heather and their two children, Jacob Weston Gray and Ava Madelin Gray. Doug is also survived by his brother-in-law, Allen J. Krowe, and his nieces, Vicki K. Carr, her daughters Melissa Grace and Ashley Rose Carr, and Valerie K. Shostak, her husband Dean and their daughters, Abigail, Josephine and Patricia Shostak. The Celebration of Life service will take place at Christ Church Parish, Christchurch,VA at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013.
