Edison B. Vail, Jr., 96, of Hallieford, VA passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018. He was born on September 21, 1921 and was a native of Norfolk, VA. He retired from C & P Telephone Co. after 39 years of service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Vail Holt. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of 75 years; 2 daughters, Constance Hughes (Fred), Deborah Young (Jay); 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Vail was a Veteran of WWII as a pilot in the Air Force serving in the China Burma India Theater where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Mr. Vail has been a member of Temple Lodge No. 9 AF & AM for more than 50 years in Richmond, VA. He was a member of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Mr. Vail was active in civic affairs of the county, various committees in the school system, served on the County Planning Commission for a number of years and also served for several years on the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Post 83 of the American Legion in Mathews.
He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many. He will be missed dearly. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mathews Chapel UM Church, Cobbs Creek, VA with burial at Haynes Cemetery.
