Edith Foster, 93, of Newport News, Virginia, left us in peace and love on the evening of March 27 at Riverside Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. Edith was born on November 30, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Edwin J. and Frances M. Rosenberg.
Edith led a most adventurous life from Staff Sargeant in the WAC, a branch of the United States Army, stationed in the Philippines in World War II, to home sales in San Miguel, Director of Arts and Crafts for the United States Army, and as the entrepreneur of one of the most innovative retail arts and crafts studios in Northern Virginia. She returned to southern Virginia where she managed a restored country store and craft center, and was active in various housing issues.
Active involvement in spiritual things and people was always present in her mind and life. Her journey included Catholic schooling, the Baha'i faith, the Episcopal Church, and healing and prayer ministry. She was a woman of prayer and study.
Edith was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert (Bobby) Foster of 51 years, as well as Baby Foster, their first of four children. Edith is survived by her children, Polly (David Wilson) Foster of Tasmania, Australia; Peter (Rebecca) Foster of Brentwood, New Hampshire; Jennifer (David Bartholomew) Foster of Hartfield, Virginia; and her grandchildren, Anna (Nate) Rogan, , ,Scott Cameron, Blythe Foster, Sarah (Jamie Fordyce) Foster, Anneke (Austin) Mills, Emily Foster, Jesse Nelson, and Jeremy Scheid.
She is also survived by her niece, Nancy McClintock; nephews Dan (Marla) Rosenberg, Eric (Patty) Rosenberg, and Lee (Pam) Rosenberg and many beloved great nieces and nephews and their children.
The burial will take place in the Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, Virginia, on July 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a non-profit organization of your choice in memory of Edith Foster.
