Edna Catherine Deagle Shackelford, 99, of Deltaville departed her earthly life on Saturday evening, October 3rd, 2015 with her family at her bedside. She was born in Deltaville at the end of Lover’s Lane on Jackson’s Creek on August 26, 1916 to the late Edward Wesley Deagle of Deltaville, VA, and Maggie Cora Lee Ewell of Gloucester, VA. As a runaway bride, she was married on February 23, 1940 to the love of her life, George Clifton Shackelford, who preceded her in death on August 11, 1989 following a blissful marriage. Also preceding her in death are her siblings Edward Lee Deagle, Marion Otellia Norris, Iva Janette Ward, Theodore Franklin “Bug” Deagle, and Susan Constance Deagle who died at the age of 8. She is survived by her only child, Janet Bareford (Frank); two grandchildren, Anthony Franklin “Tony” Bareford, and Tonya Paige Bowman (Chris); and two great grandsons, Tyler von Schilling Stanley and John Christopher “Jack” Bowman. At 1PM on Saturday, October 10, the family will receive friends at Philippi Christian Church, Deltaville. Funeral services will begin at 2PM with the Reverend William A. Palmer of West Point officiating. Following the burial at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery, the family invites everyone to a reception at Taylor’s Restaurant, Deltaville.
