Edward William Peifer of Hartfield, VA, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the age of 81. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward William Peifer and Dorothy Delury Peifer of Bronx, NY, and his son Frank William Peifer. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judith K. Peifer; son, Mitchell Steven Peifer; daughter, Diane Peifer Higgins; 4 step-children, Paul V. Krebs, J. Mitchell Krebs, Robert A. Krebs and Angela M. Barry and his sister, Delores Ganyard. He is also survived by and was delighted by his 11 grandchildren and his great-grandson. EZ-Ed, as he was affectionately known to his family, joined the U.S. Army at the age of 15 and became one of the youngest Master Sergeants. He earned his GED while serving and was also a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from American University in 1959 and became a successful businessman. He went on to become Executive Vice President of National Coated Fabrics and Owner and President of Carl B. Seeds Co. in Washington, DC. He retired in 1989 to St. Simons Island, GA, and has been a resident of Middlesex County for the past 13 years. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
