Betty (Mary Elizabeth Steele) Dyer left us on March 8th, 2021. A private service will take place to honor and celebrate her life.
Betty was born on July 15th, 1932 in Avon, NY. Daughter to Margaret and John Steele. She was the youngest of 3 children. She will be reunited with both of her brothers, John and Jim, along with her beloved parents, John & Margaret (Houston) Steele.
Betty lived a full and adventurous life starting in 1932. Growing up, Betty was more familiar with tractors, horses and dairy cows rather than cars, trains and planes. Born and raised on a farm, she never lost that appreciation for hard work, food on the table and a roof over head.
Betty met her husband, Charles (Chuck) at Alfred University and were married in 1957. Their adventures began a month after they were married when Chuck joined the US Army and was deployed to Germany. Betty soon followed and the small town, farm girl began spreading her wings to explore the world. They returned to the States for Chuck to attend University of Rochester Graduate School, and settled in Corning, NY. While in Corning they welcomed 3 daughters, Rindy, Chrissie and Lisa who filled the house with giggles and shenanigans! The Dyers are a quiet family who enjoy camping, the lake or just spending time with friends. Happiness and laughter were always there.
The Dyer adventures took everyone around the world a dozen times. Their first adventure took them to Bombay (Mumbai), then Paris, followed by England, and then back to the States for a few years, then lastly off to Australia. Betty & Chuck were world travelers who created a home for the family in each country.
In 1985 Chuck & Betty were finally ready to settle down.
Moving to Tappahannock, Virginia where they both worked together at their business, Napa Auto Parts. When Betty wasn't working, she was either golfing with friends, gardening, reading, or creating culinary delights for Chuck. Her days were filled with comfort and joy.
Betty was "as healthy as a horse" as her Mother would say. "Never sick a day in her life". In February 2020, an auto-immune disease started to take her away. It was a year of sadness and struggles. Everyone in the family fully expected to be lighting 100 candles on a cake for her.
Betty had her children and husband by her side as the final weeks/days approached. The tough little farm girl was always in Betty. Not once did she complain or say she wasn't feeling well, she fought "the good fight" and passed peacefully.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Chuck. Her 3 loving daughters, Rindy ( Jon Paul Rearick), Chrissie (Richard Somers) , Lisa (Mark Hart), and grandson Christian.
