Estella "Stella" Gates Williams

Estella (Stella) G. Williams, 91, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. She was born in Utica, NY, on September 22, 1932, to the late Gilman James and Isabell Casalett Gates. 

She married Arthur S. Williams, Sr. October 16, 1947, and was a devoted wife, as well as, mother to five sons. We will remember how she stayed at Dad’s side when he was ill in his last years. Our mother played a very important role in her grandchildren and great- grandchildren’s lives. She instilled in her family a foundation for good moral character, loving and caring hearts, and building strong work ethics. We will always remember her smile and sense of humor. 

She supported her husband and family by constantly attending sport games, academic activities, and other events. When there was free time, she enjoyed many hobbies, which included crossword puzzles, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and sudoku. Even In her later years, many people received beautifully crocheted blankets. 

For many years she was an active member of Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock, VA. 

She is survived by her four sons, Stan(Michele), Mike(Brenda), Steve(Bridgett), and David(Carolyn); and her sister Mary(Bob). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, 3 nieces, and 3 nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Arthur, her husband of 66 years, son James (Jimmy), and three brothers, Norman, Fred, and Robert. 

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 4-6 pm at Marks-Bristow Chapel (206 N .Church Lane, Tappahannock, VA ). The family invites you to join us in celebrating her life on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at Marks-Bristow Chapel.
