Frank O. Brooks, Jr., 79 died February 13th at his home, Dunluce in King William County, Virginia. Since 1982 he has managed Forest Resources Management, Inc. in Aylett. As a forest landowner, he was a member of the American Tree Farm System and a long Board member, honored “Member-of-the-Year” (2002) and Treasurer of the Virginia Forestry Association. He served on the Virginia Board of Forestry, was a member of the Society of American Foresters, The Association of Consulting Foresters, and Forest Landowners Association where he served on the Board and was “Forestry Consultant-of-the-Year”, 2016. He was a Certified Forester in Virginia and Maryland as well as Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. His knowledge of the tax code, his high ethical standard and acute knowledge led to his mentoring young forestry professionals.
Brooks held a B. S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Richmond and a Master of Forestry from Duke University. He made important contributions to Best Management Practices in timber management and to
quail habitat management. His favorite sport was hunting quail with his fine English setters. He was known for his wry wit.
For 50 years, Brooks was a member of Arlington Masonic Lodge No 102 in Millers Tavern. He was a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Millers Tavern where he served as Vestryman and Trustee.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, son, Michael, Daughter-in-law, Jess, granddaughter, Virginia, beloved first cousin, Betty Geddes, and devoted friend, John Francis Haile.
Burial is private and a Memorial will be held later in the year.
