FREDERICK WAYNE BURCH, “Ricky”, 69, of Middlesex County, Waterview, Virginia, and treasured son of the late Jack Covington Burch, and Susie Elma (Polly) Covington Burch, of Essex County, Virginia, transitioned peacefully from this life on September 4th, 2024, in Tappahannock, VA.
Born on March 8th 1955, in Richmond, Virginia, Ricky was known for his soft spoken, reserved demeanor, and his profound love for family. He cherished moments spent with his family, embodying the role of caring and supportive husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
On May 2nd 1986, he was united in holy matrimony to his soulmate Betty Verlander of Middlesex County, Waterview, Virginia. The two dwelled in the loving home his bride Betty was raised in, for 38 years.
Ricky dedicated his career to the farming industry, having worked with passion and diligence at several establishments including Greenlaw Farms, Montague Farms, Engleside Nurseries, and Gilbert Farms. His work not only reflected his commitment to the field, but also his deep connection to the land he cherished.
Beyond his professional life, Ricky was an avid outdoorsman, which shone through countless hours spent on his family’s farm, “Over Home”. Whether he was maintaining the grounds, spending quality time with family, fishing, hunting, or reflecting amongst the peaceful backdrop shaped by his father, he relished every moment spent on the family’s hallowed land. Many who knew Ricky could recount days of him driving a tractor across vast fields, shooting pool, or simply gathering with friends to share stories and laughter.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife, Betty Verlander Burch; his brother, Robert O'Brian Burch Sr. (Mary) Midlothian, Va.; and his sisters, Catherine Arlene Burch English, Patsy Kay Burch McDonald (John), and Shirley Frances Burch Kent (Gilbert), all of Tappahannock, Va, and a host of loving nieces and nephews who adored their, “Uncle Ricky”.
Ricky was preceded in death by his adoring parents Jack Covington Burch, and Susie Elma “Polly” Covington Burch. He had a special place in his heart for his Labs Jake, Jack and Polly, and cats Kitty Buck, and Gypsy.
Ricky's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as a testament to the quiet, kind soul he was, deeply connected to his roots and the natural world around him.
