Bob was raised in Baton Rouge, LA, and was a 1960 graduate of Louisiana State University. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the Navy, entered Officer Candidate School, and was commissioned an Ensign. His service took him to many bases including Long Beach, CA, Key West, FL, Charleston, SC, and Norfolk, VA. His most memorable times were in the submarine service on board the USS Grampus. As much as Bob loved the Navy, he left after just six years as a full lieutenant to spend more time with his two young sons. Bob’s next journey was a career with IBM until his early retirement in 1994. It was then he purchased “Fairwind” a classic Bristol 40’ that he sailed around the Rappahannock and Chesapeake Bay. He was an excellent sailor, as sure footed on deck as a 20 year old. Bob enjoyed being an above average golfer and took pride in making his own clubs. He was a man of many talents, including building and repairing computers, and doing all the work on the addition/renovation of his and Roberta’s home on Howard Street. He worked hard and meticulously until his body could do no more.
A reception to remember Bob’s life will be held at the Middlesex County Women’s Club Building, 202 Virginia Street, Urbanna, Virginia, 23175 on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1-3:00 p.m. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
