George Cochran

December 31, 1969 — March 8, 2014

Captain George D. Cochran, age 69, formerly of Richmond, and currently of Stingray Point and Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, after a battle with liver cancer. He is survived by his very special First Mate, Brenda Benson; two children, Dawn Gonzalez and her husband Ruben, and Tim Cochran; two grandchildren, Christian and Jason Gonzalez; two special friends, Frankie Bushong and Channing Perkins. While proudly serving in the U.S. Navy, George was aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He was an extremely intelligent man with many diverse interests including joining Mensa, and owning a heating and air conditioning business. Later in life he loved sailing on his sailboat “Rosie” from the Chesapeake Bay to the Bahamas. He often raced with members of the Merry Point Yacht Club on the Corrottoman River. As a Captain, he delivered many boats to their destinations along the East Coast and the Bahamas. George especially loved his yellow labs, the Bay, crabbing, canoeing on the Cow Pasture River, golfing with his senior friends, hanging out at the boat yard, driving his old Scout on North Carolina beaches, and Pink Floyd. Friends and neighbors are invited to his home on Fourth St. to celebrate his life on Saturday, March 22, 2014, from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Deltaville Maritime Museum, P.O. Box 466, Deltaville, VA., 23043. “Goodbye Blue Sky”
