Geraldine Rowe Atherton, 89 years old, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 6, 2018. She was born and raised in Newpoint, Virginia, and always spoke of how much fun she had there as a child. She was one of eight children. She had many fond memories of working at the Islander in it’s hay day. She was grateful for the many friends that she had over the years. Geraldine always enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family, daily phone calls with friends, sitting on her porch, swinging with her great-grandchildren and a nice breeze.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Scotty, Mickey and Bobby Atherton and her husband, Milton Atherton. She is survived by her son, Keith and daughter in-law, Christine. Her grandchildren Carrie Carroll (Paxton), Kelly Doyle (Collins) and Kevin Atherton (Katie). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren whom she adored, Riley & Camden Doyle, Everett Carroll and his twin sisters expected in October. Geraldine had many nieces and nephews that were very dear to her. The family would also like to say a special thank you to Diana Barker who helped to care for her in recent weeks.
She was buried along side her sons and husband in a graveside service that was held at Haynes Cemetery in Cobbs Creek on Sunday, September 9th. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia assisted the family with the arrangements.
