Gilbert E. Woodard, Jr. 63, of Bastian, Virginia, departed this life on the 18th day of January, 2013, ending an extended struggle with cancer. Mr. Woodard was the son of G. E. Woodard and the late Kathleen White Woodard of Conway, N.C. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Anne Bareford Woodard of Deltaville, Virginia, and two daughters, Catherine Anne Woodard, of Chicago, Illinois, and Laura Jennings Woodard, of Worcester, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his father, G. E. Woodard of Reidsville, N.C., his brother, Gary White Woodard and his wife, Charlotte Ann Bareford Woodard, of Reidsville, N.C., a nephew, Dr. James T. Woodard of Rocky Mount, N.C., and a niece, Elizabeth H.
Woodard of Greenville, N.C. Gil, as he was known to his family and friends, was a native of Conway, N.C., but spent most of his adult life in Middlesex County, Va., where he practiced law for 33 years including nine years as Town Attorney for Urbanna, Va., his wife’s hometown. He loved to travel and have friends visit him at his home, so it is appropriate that a gathering will be held at the Deltaville house from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26th. In keeping with his wishes, no funeral services or ceremonies will be held. Memorial gifts for bladder cancer research or treatment would be appreciated.
