Gladys H. Podd, 101, born on March 17, 1916 passed away peacefully April 2, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene and is survived by her son, Robert Podd, and daughter, Joan Podd, two grandsons, Jason and Jordan Podd and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Bradford and Elle. Gladys was a friend to many people byt treasured the friendships if Vickie, her hairdresser, Mrs. Joanne Gayle and especially her caregiver for the past three years, Shelly Haas, or as her family gratefully named her, St. Shelly! Gladys was an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church and her faith was the foundation of her life. As a Theresian, she was especially fond of providing soup for Soup With Love. She was an accomplished cook and won blue ribbons at the Virginia State Fair. Gladys was also an active member of the Bay Quilters and was a lifelong seamstress. She loved to work in her yard and believed that the secret to her longevity was working hard and accomplishing something every day. A funeral mass and meal will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Windsor Gardens Cemetery.
