Glen Pond

Glen Douglas Pond, born September 8,1936, of West Point, Virginia, passed away on June 1, 2017. A celebration of his life will be held June 11, 2:00 p.m. at Dream Catchers Therapeutic Riding Center, 10120 Fire Tower Road, Toano, Virginia 23168.  Family and friends are all welcome to attend. Glen is survived by his wife, Joan; his brother, Dana; his daughters, Jan (David) Phillips, Kara (Chris) McCarthy, Gail (Scott) Willard; stepchildren, James Dixon, Amy (Brett) Dixon, Tricia (Joseph) Kniatt; and 15 loving grandchildren. Glen received his masters in education from American University and began his career as an elementary school teacher and principal, he worked for the Virginia Education Association and spent the majority of his career as director of the Virginia Retirement System. He truly loved his adopted home town of Urbanna, Virginia. The Oyster Festival was his passion.  Special thanks to his caregivers and friends during his final days – my sisters, Val Raham, Amy LeMaster, Diana McLaughlin, Gwen Zimmerman, the Harrington family, Mark and Lelis Pond, Cleva Pierce, the CNA’s at Gloucester House, and Riverside Hospice. Memorial donations may be given to Dream Catchers Therapeutic Riding Center, 10120 Fire Tower Road, Toano, Virginia 23168 in appreciation of their amazing work and the kindness and joy the people of Dream Catchers brought to Glen.
