Gloria Shearwood

Gloria R. Shearwood, age 81, passed from the cares of this earth to enter the endless joys of Eternity on February 25, 2022. She was a member of Beale Memorial Baptist Church which she attended for 64 years. She loved sewing for her grandchildren, cooking for friends and family and was an avid book reader. She especially loved the Beale Memorial Baptist Church Library. She was co-teacher of the pre-school Sunday School class for 25 years, Church Treasurer for several years and Assistant Church Clerk for 6 years. One of her greatest joys was being Nana to her five lovely grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Richard (Dick) Shearwood, Jr., daughter, Susan Shearwood Smith; son, Richard Todd Shearwood (Melissa) and those lovely grandchildren, Richard Trevor Smith (Tara), Olivia Morgan Smith, John Stewart Shearwood (Dani), and Lydia Ayers Shearwood; one great-grandchild, Harrison David Shearwood; a sister, Barbara R. Bell; brother, Gerald Rose; a very dear friend, Kathleen Bareford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her family would like to sincerely thank Bonnie Martin, Connie Roy, Burnestine Henry-Brooks, and Takesha Tuppings, who affectionately cared for her in her home, as well as the family, during these times. Special thanks to Hospice of Virginia for sharing their talents, commitment and compassion.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, Tappahannock. A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Interment will follow at Essex Cemetery, Tappahannock.
