Gloria R. Thompson, age 82, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She was a graduate of Johnston-Willis School of Nursing, Richmond and was a private duty nurse until she married. After raising her children she worked at Eastern State Hospital until her retirement. Gloria was a member of Gwynn's Island Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Mary Carney Respess, two children, Kimberly Sue Thompson and "Baby Boy" Thompson, brother, Reese Respess, sisters, Irene Respess, Lillian Briggs, Elizabeth Baker and Alice Butler. She is survived by her husband, Donald S. Thompson, daughter, Cynthia T. Hamlet (Richard A. Hamlet Jr.) of Richmond, grandson, Brandon S. Hamlet of Richmond, brother-in-law, Benjamin M. Thompson, several nieces and nephews, along with her best friend, Minnie Ethel Bassett.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Gwynn's Island Baptist Church, Gwynn, VA. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the church with interment to follow in Gwynn's Island Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to: Gwynn's Island Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 26, Gwynn, VA 23066 or to a charity of donor's choice. Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
