GRAYSON TYLER ENGLISH, “Putt Putt”, 81, of Tappahannock, VA, and treasured son of the late Isabelle English of Westmoreland County, VA., transitioned peacefully from this life on January 4, 2024, in Mechanicsville, VA.
Committed to his community, Grayson began his volunteer service with the Tappahannock Volunteer Rescue Department during the early 1970’s, and was a lifetime member of the Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department.
His passion for all things John Deere and Tractors sprouted over seven decades ago, when at the ripe age of 23, he began his career with Bowis Equipment (1965). Grayson was instrumental in the company’s growth and overall success, and after 57 years of loyal and dedicated service with them, he went on to retire as Manager and Co-Owner of the now Rappahannock Tractor, James River Equipment of Tappahannock, VA.
Grayson was King of the Tractor Pulling Community. Those who pulled, knew Grayson English. He co-founded the Tidewater Pullers Association and served as their President for many years, and was a long-standing member of The Central Virginia Antique Tractor Pulling Association. Grayson instilled his love for pullin’ upon his children and grandchildren, even his nieces and nephews, who naturally coined him their, “Putt Putt.”
Grayson English was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and “Putt Putt”. If he wasn’t enjoying motor sports, speed boating, fixin’, buildin’, or pullin’ tractors, he was cheering at ball games for his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. They wore his pulse, and he truly loved and adored them.
In 1963, he was united in holy matrimony to his lifelong sweetheart, Catherine Arlene Burch, of Tappahannock, VA. He was preceded in death by his cherished son, David Tyler English. His generous spirit and champion heart will always be remembered.
Those left to cherish his memory include his adoring wife of 60 years, Catherine Arlene English; his beloved children, Teresa Lynn English, and Kevin Dale English of Tappahannock, VA; daughter-in-law, Audie Ferebee English of Tappahannock, VA; grandchildren, Johanna Lynn English, Catherine Leigh English, Kinsley Dale English, Graylin Louise English, and a host of devoted nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Marks-Bristow Chapel, 206 N. Church Lane, Tappahannock, VA, 22560. Interment will follow at the Burch Family Cemetery in Center Cross. If desired, memorials may be made to the Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department, 620 Airport Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
