It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Guy “Skip” Harold Sumrell III, age 70, who went to his Heavenly Home in the early hours of March 9, 2025.
Skip was born on October 11, 1954, at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, to the late Lt. Commander Guy Harold Sumrell Jr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), and Edna Jeanette Smith Sumrell. As the child of a military family, Skip lived in Bermuda, Florida, and North Carolina during his childhood and teenage years.
Skip proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1978.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Cassandra Sumrell and his sister, Patricia Sumrell Lilly.
Skip is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda Sumrell, as well as his children: Christina Johnson (Chad), Sarah Sumrell (Sam), and Guy H. Sumrell IV. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Wayne Setliff (Marie), Commander Jason Setliff (Michele), and Jill Adkins (Darrell). He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at Salem Community Church, 11408 Salem Church Road, Gloucester, VA 23061, on March 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Skip will always be remembered for his caring nature, generosity, and deep love for his family. He will be missed by all.
