Harvey Williams

August 13, 1935 — June 30, 2015

Harvey Lemuel Williams, III of Mathews formerly of Richmond, died on June 30, 2015 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nan Jackson Williams and Harvey Lemuel Williams, Jr.. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Henderson Williams; two sons, David Andrew Williams (Marnie) and George Patrick Williams (Heather); 3 grandsons, David A. Williams, Jr., Mathew Kirkpatrick Williams, and Henry Carter Williams; also a sister Nan Ellen Ritsch and husband, Dick. He was born on July 13, 1935 in Richmond. He was graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Virginia Tech Engineering School. While at Tech, he was a member of the German Club and served on the Civilian Honor Court. After graduation, he was employed by Manchester Paper Board (later Federal Paper Board) where he was manager of engineering for the Southern Division. In 1969 he joined the Hawkins-Hamilton Company and succeeded his father as president and C.E.O. He also founded and was president of Gadwall Investment Properties and Pine Hall Charters. In 1961, because of the Berlin Crisis, he was called to active duty by the Air National Guard. An avid sportsman, some of his happiest times were spent fishing and hunting on the Chesapeake Bay. He will be remembered for his love of life, devotion to family, and enduring sense of humor. He served on the boards of Stony Point School, Richmond Engineers Club, Mathews Yacht Club, and Mathews Community Foundation. He was a member of Kingston Parish (Christ Church) and the Mathews Yacht Club. A memorial service will be held at Kingston Parrish (Christ Church) on July 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow immediately at the Mathews Yacht Club.
