URBANNA
Herbert Marshall Aldridge, age 77, of Urbanna and formerly of Hopewell passed away unexpectedly March 17, 2012.
Herb was preceded in death by his father Timothy W. Aldridge; mother, Amy A. Aldridge; brother, Frank W. Aldridge; sisters, Roxie R. Aldridge, and Bernice A. Schuler.
Survivors include a son Marshall (Beth) of Richmond; grandsons, Timothy and Steven Aldridge, and Cabell Ferguson; and two great grandsons, all of Richmond. A brother Charles (Virginia) of Raleigh, NC, a nephew Timothy Aldridge (Judy) of Urbanna and Poquoson, great-niece Ginger Norton (Darrell) and 2 great-great nieces of New Kent.
Herb graduated from Hopewell High School in 1952 and during the next several years he along with this brother Charles worked at the Newport News Shipyard as a machinery apprentice. This training was interrupted by his army duty where he was stationed in Hamburg, Germany as part of the post war occupation forces. After his return to Hopewell he went to work for Firestone Tire Co. and remained there until he retired as a plant manager with 34 years of dedicated service.
Upon retirement he moved to Middlesex in 2001 where he became an icon at Middlesex Metals Inc. Herb enjoyed helping customers, and kept all entertained with stories about his daily experiences and humorous reminiscences about growing up in Hopewell as the youngest of five children.
Herb loved to fish and travel with his nephew Tim and his family. He particularly enjoyed the beach at Nags Head and got to make two trips to Hawaii. He spoke often of his trip to Pearl Harbor where he toured the entire facility and visited with several World War II veterans.
A memorial service will be held at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda on Friday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
