Mrs. Herminia (Minnie) Casado Dixon Taylor of Hudgins, Virginia, passed away Thanksgiving evening, November 27, 2014, at Riverside Convalescent Center, Mathews after a long decline. Born in May, 1917, she was 97 years old.
The daughter of the late Mary Moreno and Francisco Casado, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wickey Dixon Elmo and Philip Michael Elmo of Indian Trail, NC; her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Mary (Randie) and Dr. Charles Bolton of Raleigh, NC; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry R. and Jo Ann Moreno of Mena, Arkansas; and Charles and Penny More of Westport, Connecticut. Her grandchildren are Scott and Theresa Dixon of Short Pump, VA; Toney Lorene (Lori) Dixon of Richmond, VA; Jesse Wickham Ortiz of Dillsboro, NC; Taylor Michelle Dixon of Boone, NC; and Howard Hudgins of Hudgins, VA. She is also survived by her god-daughter and cousin, Nancy Castro Weaver of New York, six great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Her son, Franklin Lee Dixon, III, passed away on New Year's Eve, 2013. Her brother, Herbert Lamella, preceded her in death. She was the widow of George Wickham Dixon and Kenney D. Taylor.
She was a bookkeeper by trade and was the office manager and bookkeeper for many years at the former Chimney Corner Pontiac and Todd Auto. She was a member and a past Worthy Matron of Oriental Chapter #30, Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the Women's Club; an active and enthusiastic member of Mathews Baptist Church; and enjoyed singing with the Silver Tones. She was active in the community and served Meals on Wheels until she was 92. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia with an Eastern Star Service. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Meals On Wheels, c/o Nelda Gibbs, P.O. Box 369, Mathews, Virginia 23109.
